Grand Rapids, MI - The Boyce Bulldogs began their 2021-2022 campaign with a trip to Grand Rapids, MI. Playing in the JFB Classic at Grace Christian taking on NCCAA Mideast rivals Great Lakes Christian and Grace Christian.
On Friday, November 5th the Bulldogs took on Great Lakes Christian. The Bulldogs came out hot early on and were able to build a little lead. But Great Lakes didn't go away and chipped way at the lead until late in the first half when they took a small lead into the locker room 42-44. Coming out the second half was a back and forth affair. Neither team was up by more than 6 or 7 points at any point in the second half. There were a total of 7 ties and 10 lead changes throughout the game. In the end Great Lakes was able to hold onto a 89-86 win over the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs were paced by:
- Bailey Benham with 32 pts. (hitting 3 triples), Brody Madeira chipped in 20 pts. (hitting 2 triples) and Tyler Nauert knocked in 19 pts. (hitting 3-4 from deep).
- Kevin Kirby was powerful on the boards grabbing 12 total rebounds - 4 Offensive Rebounds
- Bulldogs as a team hit 21-31 Free Throws at 67%
- Tyler Nauert, Leonidas Alexakos and Trey Mollet all dished out 4 assists each
On Saturday, November 6th the Bulldogs took on the host team Grace Christian (Mideast Region champions last year). The Bulldogs again came out strong and had a really good first half. Tyler Nauert went 3-3 from deep to lead the team in scoring at 11 points while Trey Mollet chipped in 10 points going 4-4 from the line. The Bulldogs went into halftime with a slim lead at 37-34. The second half was a battle as it stayed close for most of the half. The Bulldogs were able to take great care of the ball by only having 4 turnovers in the second half. Tyler was able to knock down another 3 and Kevin Kirby kept Grace off the boards. The Bulldogs prevailed late winning 72-63 over Grace. This is the first win in program history over Grace.
The Bulldogs were paced by:
- Tyler Nauert with 21 pts. (5-7 from deep) and Trey Mollet dropped in 16 pts.
- Kevin Kirby again was strong on the boards with 14 - 6 Offensive Rebounds, Tyler Nauert grabbed 9 and Brody Madeira had 8
- Bulldogs shot great as a team from the line going 12-16 at 75%
- Trey Mollet, Bailey Benham, Leonidas Alexakos, Brody Madeira all dished out 3 assists each
On the weekend Tyler Nauert was named to the JBF Classic All-Tournament team.
