Men's Basketball Grabs First Win of Season
Moberly, MO: The Men's Basketball team began the season on the road at Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, MO. CCCB is a part of the NCCAA DII Midwest Region. The Bulldogs came out with a lot of energy and excitement - possibly a little to much as the first few possessions ended in turnovers. But the team began to settle down and got into a great rhythm during the first half. Tyler Nauert was able to knock down 3 triples and Aaron Quinley dropped in 2 triples as well to help the Bulldogs open up a 12 point lead with 4 minutes to go in the half. The Saints didn't give in easy and cut the lead down to single digits late in the half before the Bulldogs finished the half strong. The Bulldogs headed into the locker room up 40-28 behind some solid defense holding the Saints to just 32% from the field, 0-10 from 3.
The Bulldogs came out to start the second half strong and determined to maintain the lead. They were able to knock down an early 3 that pushed the lead out to 15 which was the largest lead of the game. The game went back and forth for the next 5 or so minutes before the Saints put up a strong run. The Saints got as close as 3 points in the second half. But late in the second half the Bulldogs broke the pressure and had an alley hoop the Deon Stewart flushed and then assisted on a layup by Aaron Quinley. The Bulldogs were able to get some stops late and knock down some clutch shots to push the lead back to double digits and close winning 85-71. CCCB will make the trip to Louisville on November 21st for the second game of the series this year.
